Back British Basketball

This is a pretty cool idea out of Great Britain. Two guys, blokes as they’re known across the Pond, are trying to drum up support for the British men’s national basketball team in their quest to play in the London 2012 Olympics.

Because the British national team only formed in earnest in 2005, basketball’s international governing body, FIBA, did not award the team an automatic berth. To compete, the host team, led by Luol Deng and Pops Mensah-Bonsu, has to advance through a four-game qualifying round, which, although kind of awkward for the Brits, is probably in the best interest of competitive basketball.

Undeterred, basketball fans Sam Neter and Silkky Slim are on a mission to fill these qualifiers with as many future basketball hooligans as possible. In the process, they hope to turn on some of their countrymen to the sport.

The two are chronicling their efforts on their website, Back British Basketball.com. Here's a short film of their progress so far.
