Fried Beer

America's determination to get fat knows no limits. A future generation of scientists, while trying to figure out when, exactly, man's abdominal muscles turned vestigial, will come across Mark Zable's fried beer concoction, a pretzel-like dough filled with beer, and ponder why the rest of us didn't heed the early warning signs before we lost the ability to straighten our backs.

Zable's fried beer is one of the eight finalists for the Sixth Annual Big Tex Choice Awards competition. Its rivals include Deep Fried Frozen Margarita, a funnel cake batter mixed with a tequila-flavored wine, dusted with margarita mix and served in a salt-rimmed plastic glass, and fried chocalate, which is, shockingly, probably one of the healthier dishes in the competition.

Last year's winning dish was fried butter. Of course it was.
