Rudy Gay, the starting forward for the Memphis Grizzlies, took batting practice yesterday with the Memphis Redbirds, the AAA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, to prove to his cousin that he could, in his words, "go yard." Unlike his time with the Grizzlies, Gay made good on his promise.
Gay sprayed a few more hard hits across the field during his next turn, enough to put Michael Jordan to shame. But [Gay's cousin] Ferguson was still confident he was going to win their bet, of which was still undetermined. Their bets normally involve someone doing pushups.

In Gay's final turn at the plate, Ilsley delivered a fastball right down the middle. Gay deposited it onto The Bluff in leftfield. He then took a home run trot, of which Ferguson couldn't help but take pictures with his cell phone camera.
If Gay can play third, the Yankees have a spot for him-- at least until Alex Rodriguez returns in early May. I'm serious: A-Rod's replacements--the murderers' row of Cody Ransom, Angel Berrora and Ramiro Pena-- are hitting a combined .213, with 4 errors between them, a rough approximation of A-Rod's recent postseason performances.
